a girl with a dream

A girl with a dream

There is a place far away from here called the enchanted forest. In the enchanted forest there are homes made of mushrooms for pixies and fairies and treehouses for the woodland people. Lemonade filled the rivers and streams and Fireflies lit the forest at night. The enchanted forest was magical except for one place and that place was the big bad boys house. The long stony path to the property was covered in glass that had cracked from the windows and fallen off timber from the crooked roof. Inside of the house everything was ripped or smashed except for a glass cabinet that stored every trophy the big bad boy had one in starlight soccer.

A few blocks down from the house in a cottage by the stream lived a little girl named Holly her pale skin was covered in freckles. She always wore a light pink dress that went down to her knees. Hollys chestnut coloured hair was tied up in a ponytail to avoid dirt getting in it.

Holly was sitting by the stream looking at the little fishes until she found flowing in the water a flyer advertising starlight soccer.. Holly decided for herself that she should try out. ¨I choose you¨ the big bad boy said as Holly arrived. At first she thought she was early and soon realized she was late.. ¨I choose him¨ the big bad boy said ¨her him her him¨ it went on and on until there was one person left sadly that was Holly. The big bad boy stormed up to her ¨there is no way I am choosing you your just a girl look behind me they are a group of the biggest baddest creatures around I bet I could huff and I could puff and I could blow you down. You probably don't even know how to play.¨ and with that the big bad boy went back to to his group. ¨I do me and my dad used to play so because of that  I will choose my own group. She ran off and went to find others to recruit in her team little did she know up above her in the clouds there was a girl who saw Holly's sorrow. And wanted to help.

Holly was now furious and wanted to defeat the big bad boy at his own game. She  went to find the biggest baddest creatures but the big bad boy was right there were no more creatures worth being in starlight soccer. Just as Holly was  about to give up down from the heavens came a girl her hair was on fire and her dress was covered in ashes ¨look I know you are angry but think he has recruited big muscular creatures but on the inside of them they are just little balls of dumbness my tip for you is to get the more strategic players starting with me.¨ who are you anyway¨ holly asked curiously. ¨ I am flare and I am here to help I come from the clouds as you are in need.¨ Ok I trust you enough to work with you. Then they went to find the team members of choice. They chose every smart person  available until they had a full team.

Little Red Riding Hood

Little red riding hood
Once upon a time there lived in a certain village a little country girl, the prettiest creature was ever seen. Her mother was excessively fond of her; and her grandmother doted on her still more.

You’re probably familiar with this story but now I’m going to share the truth. The story starts in the forest. The bushes were rustling in many directions and the trees were waving in the wind. Drops of rain fell from the heavens. There was darkness surrounding the girl as she stopped at a clearing.
A blood red hooded cape was covering parts of her tightly parted blonde hair. This girls eyes were like the deepest sea blue. A sea that even if you could swim to the surface you would eventually drown in it. Her clothes were slightly ripped in areas and she clutched a woven basket with gardening gloves in it.

The hooded girl got down to her knees and put on the gardening gloves. She started picking the daisies, roses and some poison  ivy. Red got back to her feet and and started sneaking down the path to Granny’s house until she heard rustling in the bushes. Nothing. She continued down the path now more cautious of what could be around her. Meanwhile behind the bushes there was a wolf. His wet grey hair was slowly drying in the wind as he paced back and forth having witnessed Red he thought. ¨What should I do? what should I do? Granny is in danger, I thought Red loved her Grandma so why would she put the poison ivy on top of the cupcakes? No it can´t be. Is red riding hood trying to poison her grandma? Nevermind that I have to get to that grandma¨ said the wolf and in a matter of seconds he was gone.

¨Hello hello! HELLO!!! Is anyone in there?¨. After no response the wolf began getting  impatient and used his claws to unlock the door. ¨Oh hello wolf it's lovely to see you again¨ grandma cheerfully said as she continued to fold clothes. ¨What are you doing?¨  the wolf asked suspiciously. ¨Oh um well I am going away for a while and I was actually hoping I would bump into you. Could you pretend that you have eaten me it is just because I think Red might be actually trying to kill me!¨ said Granny.

¨Sure but go now or else¨ Then the wolf pushed granny out of her house and she left on her long overdue holiday. The wolf then called the police.¨Police, police come to the forest now there is going to be an attempted murder”.

“So you are sure you saw Red Riding Hood picking the ivy from the ground and put it onto the cupcakes” the officer asked curiously.

“BANG” ¨Order in the court now we are all here today as Little Red Riding Hood has been accused of attempted murder. Now can you explain why Red was trying to poison her Grandma?”. The lawyer went on to explain that Little Red Riding Hood was due to inherit Grandma’s home when she passed away but only if she died of natural causes, that is why she picked the ivy”. After some deliberation the judge sentenced Red to life in prison. As Red rotted away in prison she realised that all bad deeds do go punished!

where am I

As I walk in the doors shut behind me many young and old people were sitting at the end of their chairs waiting for the frightening appearance of the innocent looking ladies in the lab coats. Fresh mint spread across the dull room. I run to the table and hide under it to scared to move as I saw the woman talk to my mum then she came over. It was time for me to go in the room the tools were neatly set out in front of me it was time.

Waikowhai Writing

I worked with Ruby from Waikowhai Intermediate on a shared piece of writing. My writing is in purple.

The sun shone through the gaps of the tall pine trees. The ground was damp because of the rain from the previous night. A girl awoke from the forest floor, lazily she gazed at her surroundings. Looking into the light the girl started to adjust to her new frightening surroundings. Most girls spend their morning peacefully sleeping and texting in their warm snuggly beds yet this girl was out in the wild cold scared and surrounded by little critters. She sat there on the ground thinking, her glasses were askew as they were slipping off her long-bony nose. Suddenly her glasses slipped off and shattered into pieces. Everything went blurry. The girls vision slowly got duller and dimmer until her eyes were shut. A shadow appeared in front of the girl and poured dust on her soon after that happened the girl's vision was better. She awoke, her eyes were a blur at first but they somehow got better she thought it was a miracle

The girl weakly got up onto her dirty bare feet and had a look around. The girl was thinking to herself until a noise interrupted her thoughts. She wasn't alone. She felt as if the trees were whispering to her in the wind. Suddenly one of the tallest trees came down and curved an ark she was definitely not alone.

The tree creaked to halt, suddenly revealing a secret passageway. She hesitated for a moment but rushed over to the passage and disappeared from sight. ‘Where am I?’ She thought while wandering down an endless spiral staircase. Alass at the bottom, light accompanied her. A door stood ajar, a warm glow spilled out. Slowly she tiptoed into the room, she closed the door behind her. As she peered up her mouth fell open, then twisted into a smile.. The door led to a field of flowers and a stone gravel house. She was home.

Main Points

Self Assessment
Low                                         High
1           2           3           4           5

My speech was organised logically into paragraphs, with an effective introduction and a conclusion.

I used some gestures, stood still and made eye contact with my audience.

My voice was clear and loud.  I didn’t speak too quickly or too slowly.
My speech had a message and was original, interesting and relevant to the audience.

I used ‘powerful’ words in my speech.  I also included some language features (eg repetition, alliteration, similes etc)

My speech was between 2 ½ and 3 ½ minutes long.

Next time I need to … keep at a good pace and talk positively.

Teacher Comment A very entertaining speech with a good message for us all. I enjoyed the humour you used to connect with the audience. Ka rawe.
